Nora

Nora Berthoud is a French visual artist of Bosnian roots based in Sarajevo. Her work combines graphic design, illustration, and conceptual black-and-white photography, exploring identity, imperfection, and everyday life. Through photography, she is drawn to everyday details, people, nature, cities, light, monuments, and the human body. She also works across painting, illustration, and drawing, creating a practice that moves fluidly between image, form, and meaning.

"The Faces of Sutjeska" — Located in Tjentište, Bosnia and Herzegovina, this monument was erected in memory of the fighters killed in the Battle of Sutjeska in 1943. Nora named this series for the abstract faces etched into the concrete surface of the monument, as a tribute to those who fell in battle. The monument's sharp Brutalist lines and stark black-and-white contrast create a dramatic tension between form and feeling, transforming silence and memory into a powerful visual story of Sutjeska.
